Camera Obscura

We turned MM203 (large classroom here at CMU) into a camera obscura. [Find Athanasius Kircher’s diagram of a camera obscura (1645) here]

Moving rolling white pin-up panels closer or farther and at various angles, the image would distort, get brighter or darker and change scale. A second pinhole, at 90degrees to the first pinhole, created overlapping images into a qausi-panorama.

Note: the photos dramatically exaggerate the brightness, saturation, and crispness actually seen in the room. The dark spots on the projections are pushpins in the white panels, casting shadows onto the board.
